How Fast Is Your Motor Running??

How fast does your personal motor run? Does your body burn through calories fast or slow? If you are struggling to lose weight you are probably convinced that your metabolism is permanently slow. It is your metabolism that dictates the way your body burns all of the calories from the food you eat. It converts your food into fuel, through many complex chemical reactions. Did you know that up to 75 percent of the calories you take in every day go toward keeping your organs functioning and you alive?

And yes it is true that if your metabolism is slow you will find it difficult to lose weight. But contrary to popular belief this is not a situation completely controlled by genetics. You can make healthy lifestyle changes to speed up your metabolism. Read the rest of this entry »

Remember the WHY…

So why do we do it? Make a plan, call in the troops then fall off course? Or…… continuously avoid making a plan, shy away from the subject but then beat ourselves up? We “know” what we are supposed to do and for some, even how to execute but it’s a constant battle of wills; will I or wont I? Why is that?

Well it’s certainly not rocket science, but we’re all human and as much as labour intense jobs were very much the norm when our parents were young, that’s not the way it is now. Desk jobs, computers, cell phones, internet, diet plans, plastic sugery and anything else you can think to make our lives easier has been a huge detrement to our lifestyle overall. Hard work just isn’t what it used to be and when you are surrounded by people who constantly ( subconsciously) take short cuts as a part of their daily life, this becomes the new “norm”. Staying Motivated – Don’t Give Up

It probably doesn’t matter where you live but if you are anywhere along the east coast, you have probably been blasted atleast a few times with a good amount of snow and it’s taking everything in you to stay motivated with your exercise routine.

We’ve all been there and as a matter of fact, there are alot there right now – me included! I always comment about how great I feel when the sky is blue and the sun is shining. There’s a reason for why depression sufferers use special lights indoors during the winter months to improve their mood and keep them from spiralling. Read the rest of this entry »

Guest Blogger: Life After Baby

Having a baby is a highly anticipated event and most parent-to-be plan ahead for their new arrival. The evidence of this planning can be seen through gift registries, baby showers and prenatal class attendance. All of these activities and rituals help parents adjust to the idea of having a baby and at the same time accumulate all the gadgets and gear their baby will need.

What expectant parents sometimes forget is that you must also plan for your daily life once baby arrives and figure out how you will accomplish your usual daily tasks like making meals or doing the laundry. Life with a newborn can be overwhelming due to sleepless nights, insecurity and the significant life change that happens with a new baby. Here are a few tips that will help you feel more in control during the first few months. Read the rest of this entry »

New Years “Goals”

The reason I say goals is a think “resolutions” are just another good excuse to fail. As harsh as it sounds, thousands upon thousands of people every January make resolutions and promises that they are going to either quit smoking, lose weight or something else that will significantly alter their life. And that’s not a bad thing to do, but why should we wait for January 1st to make a decision to change something that we know deep in our gut, is going to turn our lives around and improve our life? The answer is simple…it’s “what everyone else does” and “what’s expected” but with that, it’s also expected (and quite successful) to fail. Read the rest of this entry »

40….and fit to be tied!!

I went to bed last night feeling very tired, grumpy, short tempered and blah. And although it was 9pm and I had been up since 6:30, it made sense to be tired, but i felt like I was PMS – ing but that was all done with last week. So…WTH?? Then I thought….does it have anything to do with turning 40 tomorrow? Naaaa. I haven’t thought about it at all. My birthdays were always a big deal when I grew up but since I had kids, the torch was passed and I really don’t (or didn’t think I did) give it a second thought.

Well this morning didn’s seem any different. I woke at 5:30 AM (yuck!) and couldn’t get back to sleep so went downstairs, made a coffe, jumped on Twitter and enjoyed the peace. After an hour or so passed, my little ones woke, proceeded to come downstairs and wish me a Happy Birthday. What a nice way to start my 40th year morning….until. Read the rest of this entry »

What’s your plan??

So now that it’s officially the “holiday season” you may be panicking about or have already started to slip into an abyss of early holiday cheer, parties, and indulgences.

We’ve all done it and have suffered the consequences when we step on the scale after the New Year and “freak out” that we could actually gain that much in such a short time! But really, what did you expect; a miracle?? How many glasses of wine, nibblies and deserts did you think you could get away with before your body had had enough and started packing on the pounds? Sound familiar? Read the rest of this entry »

Eating for Two

It has come from my own two personal experiences and observing and talking to moms for years that we tend to fall off the wagon when it comes to our kids and our relationship with food.

When I became pregnant the first time, like most moms, I was going to show the world what the healthiest baby on the planet looked like! Not only did I have my 8-10 servings of fruits and vegetables EVERY SINGLE DAY, but I dranks loads of water, took vitamin supplements and got plenty of rest – just like the experts recommend. And did I deliver a healthy baby? You bet! And she still is; a lover of good food with a good understanding of the way it works but an intense weakness for sugar. Hhmmmm…Where did that come from?
