Remember the WHY…
So why do we do it? Make a plan, call in the troops then fall off course? Or…… continuously avoid making a plan, shy away from the subject but then beat ourselves up? We “know” what we are supposed to do and for some, even how to execute but it’s a constant battle of wills; will I or wont I? Why is that?
Well it’s certainly not rocket science, but we’re all human and as much as labour intense jobs were very much the norm when our parents were young, that’s not the way it is now. Desk jobs, computers, cell phones, internet, diet plans, plastic sugery and anything else you can think to make our lives easier has been a huge detrement to our lifestyle overall. Hard work just isn’t what it used to be and when you are surrounded by people who constantly ( subconsciously) take short cuts as a part of their daily life, this becomes the new “norm”.
How many of you have looked at yourself and said, how in the hell did I let this happen? “Let”, is a very good word. Atleast you are being accountable for your actions but clearly, that isn’t enough. Every single one of us has a choice and we make them, hundreds of them, every single day without even thinking; which can have dangerous ramifications when it comes to our health. But we continue to do it. WHY??
There any many schools of thought but one that many an expert, medical practitioner, health provider can agree on; it’s learned behaviour and alot easier than the alternative – hard work. Unlike myself who grew up in a household with a single mom who smoked, never exercised and worked herself to the core to provide for me, I took that experience and did the extreme opposite. I saw what I didn’t want in my future. But most, on the other hand, would accept that as a way of life and follow in their parents foot steps. There is something to be said for the apple not falling far from the tree.
So there’s something to think about and also some motivation to start making a change if you haven’t already done so. Now that you are a mom, you are responsible for setting an example. Now I know this is not the first time you have heard this, nor will be the last. But a good reminder never hurt anyone especially if you are trying to break habits that have been ingrained into you since you were born. You have an opportunity to create a new norm and build healthy, awesome, strong human beings! Just think about it…. how powerful would be to your child or children to be able to run, climb and excel not just physically but mentally too. What a fantastic way to build self esteem and create habits that will be a part of them for the long haul. Oh, and I didn’t forget you. How good will you feel knowing you helped to make that happen?
